The Short Version

What actually changed on 1 July

The 60-second read behind the 60-second check.

From 1 July, the classification levels under the Children's Services Award and the Educational Services (Teachers) Award were restructured, alongside the annual wage increase. It's not just new rates on the same levels. The levels themselves changed, so where you sit may have moved even if your job hasn't.

Your level is driven by your qualification and your day-to-day duties, not your job title. The two most common gaps: finishing a Cert III or Diploma and never being reclassified, and doing room-leadership duties while still being paid at a lower level. If either sounds familiar, the level on your payslip may be out of date.

The check above shows your level and casual hourly rate in two questions. If it doesn't match your payslip, that's a conversation worth having with your employer, and if you're picking up casual shifts, it's the rate you should be earning in full.

Estimates shown are indicative only. Children's Services Award [MA000120] casual rates include the standard 25% casual loading on the full-time/part-time hourly rate. Educational Services (Teachers) Award [MA000077] casual rates for long day care are set as full-day and half-day amounts under the award rather than a flat hourly rate; the hourly figure shown here is an indicative equivalent (official full-day rate divided by 7.5 hours) and your actual pay may differ depending on shift length and engagement type. Neither figure is a payroll determination. Confirm your exact classification and pay with your employer.
